Are you looking for a laptop computer? Did you know that there may be less expensive alternatives? Depending on your situation, cheap netbooks could be the answer. Here are things to consider.

Not just a small laptop

Cheap netbooks are actually laptop computers. They have been referred as subnotebooks also. They have been made to be smaller and lighter than a standard laptop. They do not have to be a certain dimension. Many of these mini computers, as they are also known, are quite small. In fact the can be fifty percent smaller in some cases. The price is usually much smaller too. These are made for people that need to write, perform simple tasks, and go online.

Advantages

Lower price is a big issue. People may not be able to afford a laptop. However, they can still buy an inexpensive netbook and get many of the features. Some are available for fewer than two hundred dollars. The smaller screen may give a sharper picture than some full size laptops. Frequent fliers may appreciate the lighter weight and smaller size. You can access wireless Internet and do tasks like word processing form most anywhere. Beginners and those interested mainly in Internet access will find the mini computers, easy to operate.

Some bad things

You might not have a CD or DVD drive. Sitting and using this computer for long periods may be difficult. Your hands may cramp and your eyes may strain from the small screen. If you are a large person, this could be worse. Also, if this is your only computer, it might make things difficult. You may have limited storage. Although you can get bigger, many cheaper models have small hard drives. You may not be able to use it long without recharging. The inexpensive units may have short battery life. Your operating system may be different than your regular computer.

Consider these things

Try to get the most powerful battery that you can. You may have to buy an additional one. This is important if you will be away from a power source for extended times.

If it comes with little storage potential, consider a larger hard drive. Make sure you know what is available.

Try one out. You may not know if the keyboard is too small for you unless you actually touch one. This will also give you a better idea of what you will need.

Summary

Cheap netbooks have a lot of possibilities. Be certain that they are what you need. Don’t try to do too much with one and you may have little problems.

Laptop Looking

Buying a new laptop is a lot like buying a new car or even more intimately, like picking out a new spouse. The only major difference between the two is that it is considerably cheaper to get a new laptop, and unlike a spouse, you have more options.

There are several options to look at when purchasing a new laptop. Okay, realistically, there probably thirty or forty when you get into configurations and techno mumbo-jumbo that only the IT guys like to talk about. For the sake of the everyman we are only going to look at the three that really apply to you; size, what it does and the cost. Everything else is just a light.

Screen size has a direct impact on virtually every other part of your laptop. From little baby mini-cuties to the big honkin’ laptop mommas, you’ve got a lot to chose from. The thing that the screen size directly impacts has to be the keyboard size. When you consider that the keyboard has to fit under the screen this is a no brainer. Those minis are kind of cool, but the chances of getting a number pad under there that a full grown man over 150 lbs will be able to use, is a slim thing.

Another size factor is weight. Some people don’t mind weight one way or another. To others, the difference between 5 lbs and 8 lbs is the difference between a hernia. This might sound kind of silly, but it is often a factor with purchases. If it weren’t then the subject would never be brought up in reviews.

Functionality is probably what you should be looking at in a laptop. If 90% of the processes you are going to be running are going to be running are going to be documents and things of that nature, you don’t need the huge, big daddy quad processor. If you are a gamer then you will never get any of what you need out of a $500 machine with a low end duo core processor. Them’s just facts Junior.

Whatever you do though, make sure you can upgrade the RAM at a later date. This will make a big difference later on as your machine ages a bit. Adding RAM will increase the length of time you can use your laptop. Remember these words Grasshopper, you will want to upgrade one day. RAM is cheaper than a whole new machine.

The range in price for a new laptop is astounding! From $500 to $7,000 or better astounding. The thing to do for sure is to comparative shop. Recently I saw a model in a retail store that was a full $300 more expensive than the same model online. We all know where I got mine from. So definitely keep your eyes open. Another final tip is to realize sometimes you might be better off with a smaller screen and more computing power than a larger screen and not as much.

When shopping, you inclination is to get faster than what you will need to begin with figuring that technology will catch up and pass your machine. This type of forward thinking is pretty smart, but remember though, technology in laptops has pretty much slowed some. It’s still progressing, but not as rapidly as it once was. This means that the next new leap in technology will render whatever you get pretty much not as cool as it once was. (I hate the word obsolete.) The point is to get what you need now and worry about the future when it gets here.

The Best Way To Find A Cheap Laptop

If you know exactly where to look, locating a cheap laptop will be a breeze. Think about what you need in a laptop, from the features to the operating system required. Spend some time doing preliminary scouting and get as many details as possible before really digging in.

First, know what you intend to spend. Cheap is a very broad word when referring to electronics. Some inexpensive laptops can still cost over $1,000. You’ll need to get a budget and stick to it to be successful. Keep in mind that if you intend on making a purchase online that shipping, handling and insurance will be applicable.

Use real world sources like pawn shops and computer repair store to find really good deals. Computer repair stores are often underutilized for making these types of purchases. Pawn shops carry a number of barely used electronics. The best part about using offline sources is that you can try out the product before making a decision.

Likewise, finding a suitable item online can also prove fruitful. Major retailers, auction websites and smaller computer sizes usually offer unbeatable deals on electronics. Another plus to shopping online is that you can literally do it whenever you want at any time of the day. You can get all of the information you need on a particular model without leaving your home.

Get information on warranties offered and weigh your options. Sometimes a limited warranty will be all you need to know if the laptop is dependable or not. Keep this in mind especially when purchasing a previously owned product. The investment into an outside warranty will probably be well worth the money spent.

Because selling computers in general is a great way to make a fast profit, the buy must beware. Plenty of fly by night companies and shady businessmen exist in this market, so do your research. Take note of any negative reviews found on a particular seller, and try to get physical contact information. Also make sure that you get a receipt for tax purposes should the laptop not be in working condition.

Make sure that you exhaust all of your options before finally settling down to make a purchase. Finding a cheap laptop may be easy, but getting a high quality product is can be difficult. Keep your options open and never jump at the first thing you see. Keep these tips in mind and you will be sure to find a laptop that will keep you happy for years.

Looking For A Cheap Laptop?

Ten odd years ago, a cheap laptop was practically unheard of. A new laptop back then would be about the price of a pre-owned car today. The technology was relatively new, so it was, of course, relatively expensive.

These days you can find a good rig in every price range, from a hundred bucks to a few grand. It’s all a matter of what you need, and knowing where to look for it.

Here are a few of the best ways to score great laptops for cheap…

Sales

This one’s a no-brainer, of course. Since time immemorial, sales have always been the best way to get great products cheap. Look out for laptop sales, and don’t be too picky. You can get a really good laptop for half the price it would usually cost, and then spend just a few dollars more upgrading it to your dream rig.

Geek Buddies

If you’ve got a friend who always needs to have the newest, fanciest, most top of the line laptop, just let them know you can take an old one off their hands the next time they upgrade. You’re doing them a favor by giving them a little cash to put towards their next laptop. Settle on the average between trade-in, and how much the laptop typically sells used. This way you’re paying less, they’re getting more, and you’re both better off.

Used Laptops

Just be careful going this route. Used laptops typically need a little refurbishing if you don’t know that the person who sold it to you took good care of it. You might have to spend a couple extra bucks fixing it up, so make sure you get a great deal. Just buy through reliable resources. The want ads MIGHT get you a great deal, but they’re not exactly the best around when it comes to the matter of accountability.

Get’em Online

Everything’s cheaper on the internet, everything. You can check out dozens of sites, find the best deal, and get the laptop you want for much less than you’d pay at the local computer shop. If you want to give each computer a test run first, to see how the touch pad feels, to see what the keyboard types like, then go ahead and check them out at a local shop in person, but do your final buy on the web.

Mildly Outdated Rigs

They’re always putting out something newer and fancier. This doesn’t mean the old ones are no good, just that the old ones are cheaper. Keep an eye out for great laptops that are getting an overhaul from the manufacturer in the near future. When the new model comes out, snatch up the old one.

The Laptop Has An Interesting History

The laptop, as we know it today, has an interesting legacy. In 1981 a rather clumsy and heavy portable computer was made. It was called Osborne. Even though it was far removed from modern day laptops, it was highly celebrated because, for the first time in computer history, people could actually transport a computer for use at another venue.

Next was the Compaq Portable in 1983. Although called ‘portable’, like its predecessor it was just has heavy and cumbersome. But it was the first transportable computer that was IBM compatible. Although it needed electricity to operate, it ran off MS-DOS.

The first laptop that came close to the ones we are familiar with today was the GriD Compass 1101, designed by Bill Moggridge, and released during 1982. This computer was housed in a magnesium case which is similar to the clam shell casings that we see on modern laptops.

Two other attention-grabbers came out in the 1980s, namely the PC-5000 made by Sharp and the Gavilan SC. It was the Gavilan that evoked the most interest because the word ‘laptop’ was used to market it. But the biggest seller was the Kyocera 85 which operated with batteries and therefore it was genuinely portable.

Then came three commercial IBM-compatible laptops. Two of these were made by Toshiba, the T1200 and the T1000, and the other was the IBM PC Convertible. The two Toshibas were released in 1987, and the IBM was released in 1986. Over the following few years there were major developments in computer technology and, by 1995, the word ‘laptop’ was a household name.

So here we are in the 21st Century, and laptops form an integral part of our lives. We just can’t do without them! We often forget that in the not too distance past, a computer was considered a luxury item. These days, it is an essential component of modern society and the entire world is reliant on them.

With the convenience of laptops, we are not bound to our homes or offices. Just walk into any restaurant, hotel or other public place and you will see men, women and children busy on their laptops. They are used for entertainment purposes, business purposes and research purposes.

There is no doubt that the laptop caused a mini revolution. Our laptops enable us to sit in any corner of the globe and pay our bills, book flights, or converse face-to-face with our family and friends, no matter where they live. Accessories for laptops include USB cables, battery packs, webcam and, for those PC gaming addicts, you can get a joystick.

Why Leather computer Backpacks Have Become So Popular

Nowadays laptop computers are becoming more popular and they are substituting desktop computers completely. It is very rare to see a person now without a laptop, or a notebook which is generally provided by offices in most of the western companies.

People take their notebook computers home from work or carry them while they travel to a different location and this is the reason why bags, especially leather bags have become important to keep the computers safe.

Usually the best laptop bags available are made of real leather as they provide the advantage of flexibility and are long lasting. Hence there is no wearing out of the bag every now and then. There is no fear of cutting or seams opening which makes the bag everlasting.

These leather laptop bags also provide a professional and confident look which you will not get with any other type of bag. Can you imagine yourself going for a first meeting with an ugly looking low cost computer bag.

The cheap bag shall attract the attention of everybody in the room. It will also overshadow the expensive suit that you might be wearing.

Now imagine yourself walking to the same room in the same suit , but this time with an elegant leather laptop bag. This will give you a sense of confidence and self esteem, besides letting people know in the room how much you care about quality standards. Half the minds are already won if you are carrying the right case.

Wrestling With Laptop Accessories

Laptop accessories can be a real lifesaver. Laptops are built specifically to be small, and that is their biggest asset and unfortunately, their largest detractor. Accessories are just what you should be looking at. They will enhance your laptop experience, but more importantly, they are optional.

Laptop accessories will save your life! No wait, not really. But they will make your life much easier to deal with. The four major issues people have with their laptops are the keyboard, the touchpad, heat and transporting their laptop. We’ll address all four of these, and maybe throw in an extra tip.

As mentioned before, keyboarding can be a pain in the neck on some laptops, particularly the smaller models. A fold out USB keyboard could definitely come in handy. It just so happens that someone invented one! These babies are plug and play which means the device drivers have to load just one time and forever after you can just plug it in and type away.

The second control function more disliked is the touch pad. These things can be a real hassle, especially when you consider how inaccurate they can be from time to time. I recommend a wireless mini mouse. They are plug and play so you just plug in the wireless mouse and away you go! We’re talking serious convenience and hardly any room taken up in your laptop case. This is definitely a must have.

Keeping the old notebook, netbook or laptop cool is one of the most important things to consider. Often, without proper airflow, a processor will overheat and then what? You have a huge mess on your hands. More accurately, you have a really hard time computing without one. Buying a laptop tray is a good idea, particularly if you are an on the couch or in bed kind of laptop user. This allows for airflow to be at an optimum and keeps your core nice and cool.

Also consider a can of air as a possibility to keep you laptop nice and cool. Blowing out the fan and the keyboard periodically will help keep dust build up down. This is pretty important. While not exactly a laptop accessory tip, here’s a tip for you anyway” have your laptop cleaned up and serviced by a professional every so often.

A sturdy carrying case is really needed. Even if you rarely leave your home with your laptop, you will still need the added protection. Usually your laptop will come with a case already, these rarely are sturdy enough to provide any sort of real protection. There are hard cover cases and backpack models available. At this point it is a question of style. Remember to think about padding though. A lot of padding it better than none at all; and a hard case is best of all. Plus a hard case can serve as a impromptu picnic table if needed. There’s a bonus!

Laptop accessories can help you be more productive, keep your laptop safe and even help you further personalize your person computing experience. Shopping around online is always a good idea and will help you decide what exactly you need to help you on your way. Whatever you decide, keep your chin held high and keep on computing!
