Stereo Systems?

I have a boat and currently there is a receiver( similar to a car receiver) connected to 4 speakers. the receiver is connected to a rectangle could just be how recievers are done or it could be an amplifier I have no idea. The first two speakers are within 5 feet of the receiver and the other two speakers are at the back of the boat approximately 15-20 feet away. The speakers in the front are loud and clear while the speakers in the back are less loud and less clear. How can I either make the sound equal amongst the speakers or more powerful in the rear speakers?
you might need to add a small amp to help power the rear speakers. I found package that includes two speakers amp and a place to connect a mp3 player for $150
There are other speakers, headunits and amps also listed and all are marine grade.
